About Daisy Jones & The Six
AI-generated"Daisy Jones & The Six" tells the story of a fictional 1970s rock band's meteoric rise and dramatic implosion, presented as an oral history through interviews with band members and those in their orbit. Daisy Jones is a beautiful, talented, and troubled singer navigating the LA music scene, while The Six is an up-and-coming rock band fronted by the magnetic Billy Dunne. When a producer decides to put them together, the collaboration creates magic—and chaos. The electric chemistry between Daisy and Billy fuels both their greatest creative successes and their most destructive conflicts. Reid explores themes of artistic ambition, addiction, the price of fame, and the complicated nature of love and loyalty. The novel examines how creative partnerships can be both transcendent and toxic, and how the people we work closest with aren't always the ones we can actually be with. Through its unique interview format, the story reveals how memory is subjective and how each person experiences the same events differently. What makes this book irresistible is its innovative documentary-style format that makes the fictional band feel utterly real, combined with Reid's sharp dialogue and deep character work. Music lovers will appreciate the vivid recreation of the 1970s rock scene, while anyone drawn to complex relationship dynamics and ensemble casts will find themselves unable to put it down. It's a love letter to rock and roll that captures both the glamour and the grit.

I enjoyed the whole book and the narration was absolutely top notch. I mean, I'd listen to Jennifer Beals read a technical manual and be happy, but everyone was great. Documentaries are my jam so this felt right. But, like a documentary, it tended to be slow - interesting and good, but slow. The last couple of hours went by quickly and I honestly felt like I was leaving some friends behind.
