About Verity
AI-generatedVerity is a psychological thriller that follows Lowen Ashton, a struggling writer who accepts a lucrative offer to complete the remaining books in a famous author's series. The catch: she must move into the home of Verity Crawford, the brilliant but now-comatose author, and work from her private study while caring for Verity's family. As Lowen settles into her new role, she discovers Verity's personal journals hidden throughout the house—raw, unfiltered confessions that reveal a deeply disturbing side to the woman everyone thought they knew. What makes Verity so compelling is its intricate web of unreliable narration and shocking revelations. The novel masterfully plays with reader perception, constantly shifting what you think you know about the characters and their motivations. Hoover creates a tense atmosphere thick with suspicion and dread as Lowen uncovers secrets that blur the line between truth and fiction. The story explores themes of ambition, family secrets, and the dangerous masks people wear in public. Readers are drawn to this book for its addictive, page-turning narrative and its willingness to go to genuinely dark places. The twists are unexpected and impactful, leaving readers questioning their interpretations long after finishing. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with morally complex characters and endings that challenge your assumptions, Verity delivers a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Struggling with the Verity narrator. She sounds less lively than my computer-generated voices on my text-to-speech reader.

I'm going with 3 stars because it's easy to follow and it's a little spooky and you know something fishy is going on so it's a page turner. But on the flip side the writing is poor, the characters are shallow, and the ending was lame. Overall just kinda corny but I flew through it so that's got to count for something. I could probably go without ever reading Colleen again, there's just better material out there in the same genre.
