Pride and Prejudice retelling without the Comedy of Manners. (Or maybe I just don't get the in-jokes, so sadly, not a RomCom for me-just a contemporary romance.) This 1st half is world building. The 2nd half is the retelling. Characters: Lizzy: Ayesha is a dependable, substitute teacher way more dedicated to her cousin, Haftsa, than Lizzy was to Lydia. Her practicality and steadiness remind me of more of Charlotte (whom I love, don't bother to argue with me). Ayesha is outspoken like Elizabeth, but she doesn't have the wit or humor, and sadly, she does not delight in all things ridiculous. Lydia: Haftsa is the worst. Think Lydia + Mean Girls and roll your eyes real hard. Darcy: Khalid appears to be a deeply conservative Muslim man in his dress and awkwardness, but he's really is a momma's boy, acquiescing to her requests without thought. He's a grown man who doesn't really know who he is or what he wants.Lady Catherine de Bourgh: Khalid' mom. Major villain vibes.Mr. Wickham: hot caterer
