The House in the Cerulean Sea

A burned-out caseworker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth is given one last assignment: travel to a remote orphanage by the sea and determine whether the dangerous magical children living there pose a threat to the world. What Linus Carroll expects to find is a facility filled with monsters who need to be contained. What he discovers instead is a place brimming with wonder, found family, and creatures far more complex and lovable than he ever imagined. The House in the Cerulean Sea blends cozy fantasy with genuine heart, exploring themes of acceptance, bureaucratic cruelty, and the transformative power of choosing compassion over fear. Through Linus's eyes, readers encounter a motley crew of supernatural beings—including a gnome, a sprite, a Pomeranian, a wyvern, and an Antichrist—each with their own vulnerabilities and charm. The novel asks what it truly means to protect children and whether safety can exist without love. Klune's warmth and humor shine throughout this enchanting tale, making it a comfort read that never sacrifices emotional depth or social commentary. Perfect for readers who appreciate whimsical yet meaningful fantasy, LGBTQ representation woven naturally into the narrative, and stories that remind us why kindness matters. The book celebrates found family and personal growth while delivering genuine magic that extends beyond spells and curses.
