The Long Game

Long Game is a second-chance romance that reunites two men whose relationship ended before it truly began. Shane Hollander is a professional hockey player who has finally come out publicly and is trying to build a more authentic life. When he reconnects with Ilya Rozanov—the cocky Russian hockey star he had a brief, intense relationship with years ago—old feelings resurface alongside unresolved hurt. Ilya has never forgotten Shane, but their past breakup left wounds that won't easily heal. As they navigate their reunion, both must confront what went wrong, whether they can trust each other again, and if they're willing to fight for a real relationship this time around. Reid explores themes of identity, courage, and the cost of living in the closet, particularly within the traditionally masculine world of professional hockey. The novel thoughtfully examines how internalized homophobia and fear can sabotage relationships, while also celebrating the possibility of growth and redemption. The chemistry between Shane and Ilya crackles on the page, balancing emotional depth with humor and heat. What makes this story particularly appealing is its mature handling of complicated emotions and realistic relationship dynamics. Fans of sports romance will appreciate the authentic hockey details, while readers seeking LGBTQ+ representation will find a hopeful story about claiming your truth and finding love on your own terms. It's both a swoony romance and a genuine exploration of what it takes to be vulnerable enough for lasting love.
