I love this one even more than the others! Irreverent, tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top, and pointedly accurate for women in STEM. I think I had a cry around 25% for the parallels to my experiences. Some non-revealing examples:For women in their 20s: It's complicated, being a woman in STEM. Even more so when you're young and unproven. And even more so when you have a semi-pathological need to get along with others. On being perfect but not too perfect. Wouldn't want to upset the old boys' club: When you're a woman talking about your research, there are anywhere between one and a million STEMlords ready to exploit every little weakness-every little sign that you're not a lean, mean science machine. The you people want is sharp, impeccable, perfect enough to justify your intrusion in a field that for centuries has been "rightfully" male. But not too perfect, because apparently only "stone-cold bitches" are like that, and they do not make for congenial, affable colleagues. And a more personal one bc sickness exacerbates the situation (wow I was polite with that wording): You don't know what it feels like to have a chronic condition and no health insurance! To have to be perfect, to have to be on all the time because everyone around you expects you to be! Ali Hazelwood understands me and has my whole heart. Also, 10/10 for "Duke's a nepotistic swamp." Just the right amount of petty. As for the plot, *sighs happily*. For the chemistry, same. Elsie and Jack had excellent chemistry-and a non-toxic relationship. A slow-burn before someone doused it in oxygen. And we see women supporting women! In summary: All the feels. All the love. All the coziness.
