Heartless (Special Edition)

I’m a huge contemporary romance/romantasy/dark romance reader and I picked this book to experiment with cowboy romance so, being fair, it’s probably not you it’s me. Cowboy romance, clearly not my thing. There was nothing wrong with the characters and they had a degree of depth but the whole happy small town romance vibe just doesn’t do it for me without something extra. I’m not a fan of men referring to their partner as “woman”, I don’t find it sexy, and there are a lot of references to things being “manly” or “the manliest”. Felt a bit outdated. I actually didn’t mind the FMC who was sharp and feisty but there was too much focus on her looks and how she cared for his child. Then with the way the ending went down, it was kinda predictable and the whole thing just left me feeling a bit softcore anti feminist. But hey it’s probably me so I gave it 3* anyway.
