Binding 13

Binding 13 is the first book in Chloe Walsh's Boys of Tommen series, a New Adult Irish romance that combines the intensity of young love with the gritty world of rugby. The story follows Johnny Kavanagh, a rising rugby star with dreams of playing professionally, and Shannon Lynch, a new student at Tommen College who's escaping a troubled home life. When these two damaged souls cross paths, an unexpected connection forms that challenges both their carefully constructed defenses. Johnny becomes fiercely protective of Shannon, while she finds herself drawn to the boy everyone warns her is destined for greatness—and too important to risk. The novel tackles heavy themes including domestic abuse, trauma, and healing, balanced with moments of genuine tenderness and hope. Walsh doesn't shy away from depicting the harsh realities her characters face, but she also celebrates the transformative power of found family, unconditional support, and first love. The Irish setting is vividly rendered, and the rugby culture adds an authentic athletic backdrop that fans of sports romance will appreciate. What makes this book particularly appealing is the slow-burn romance built on mutual respect and understanding rather than instant attraction. Both main characters are deeply layered, flawed, and fighting their own battles, making their relationship feel earned and authentic. Walsh's writing is emotionally raw and immersive, creating characters readers genuinely root for. Fair warning: this is a lengthy, character-driven story that deals with mature content and ends on a cliffhanger, making it essential reading for those who love angsty, protective hero romances with substantial emotional depth.
