Operation Bounce House

Operation Bounce House delivers a darkly comedic and action-packed science fiction tale that flips the script on gaming culture and colonialism. When farmer Oliver Lewis and his fellow colonists on New Sonora find themselves under attack, they discover their assailants aren't invading aliens or rival factions—they're gamers back on Earth controlling massive war machines as part of a pay-to-play entertainment spectacle. What begins as a simple fight for survival evolves into a desperate struggle against an enemy that views their deaths as nothing more than points on a leaderboard, turning the colonists' everyday lives into someone else's brutal game. Matt Dinniman, known for his Dungeon Crawler Carl series, brings his signature blend of humor and high-stakes action to explore themes of corporate exploitation, the dehumanizing nature of remote warfare, and the ugly intersection of entertainment and violence. The novel offers biting social commentary wrapped in an entertaining package, examining how distance—whether physical or emotional—allows people to commit atrocities they'd never consider face-to-face. With its unique premise and Oliver's grounded perspective as an ordinary farmer thrust into extraordinary circumstances, Operation Bounce House will appeal to readers who enjoy their science fiction with both brains and explosive entertainment.
