Magic Bites (Kate Daniels Series, Book 1)

In a future Atlanta where magic and technology vie for dominance in unpredictable waves, mercenary Kate Daniels lives by one rule: keep your head down and survive. When magic is up, guns fail and swords reign; when tech surges back, enchantments fizzle and cars roar to life again. Kate possesses her own formidable powers that she's learned to keep hidden, but when her guardian is murdered, she's forced into the open to track down his killer. Her investigation plunges her into Atlanta's supernatural underworld, where she must navigate between the Pack—shapeshifters led by the enigmatic Beast Lord—and the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, while something ancient and deadly stalks the city's streets. This series opener blends urban fantasy with a unique post-apocalyptic setting where the familiar modern world has been transformed into something both gritty and magical. Kate is a compelling protagonist: tough, sarcastic, and skilled in combat, yet vulnerable in ways she struggles to admit. The world-building stands out with its creative magic system and the tension between supernatural factions, while the mystery keeps readers guessing. With sharp humor, intense action sequences, and the promise of deeper secrets about Kate's own mysterious heritage, Magic Bites launches an addictive series that appeals to fans who enjoy strong heroines, complex magical systems, and romance that builds slowly alongside genuine danger.
