About The Stranger Beside Me

AI-generated

"The Stranger Beside Me" is a chilling true crime classic that chronicles Ann Rule's unique and unsettling relationship with Ted Bundy, one of America's most notorious serial killers. Rule, a former police officer turned crime writer, worked alongside Bundy at a Seattle crisis hotline in the early 1970s, considering him a friendly, compassionate colleague and friend. As she began investigating a series of brutal murders of young women in the Pacific Northwest for a book project, she couldn't have imagined that her charming co-worker would eventually be revealed as the perpetrator. What makes this account particularly compelling is Rule's dual perspective as both a close personal acquaintance of Bundy and a professional crime writer attempting to reconcile the man she knew with the monster he became. She offers intimate insights into Bundy's personality, their conversations, and her own psychological struggle to accept the truth about someone she trusted. The book explores themes of deception, the nature of evil hiding in plain sight, and the devastating impact of violent crime on victims and their families. Rule's narrative is both deeply personal and meticulously researched, providing readers with an unprecedented insider's view of a serial killer before, during, and after his crimes. Her straightforward, compassionate writing style and her courage in examining her own blindness to Bundy's true nature have made this one of the most influential true crime books ever written, establishing a new standard for the genre.

I read this book awhile ago, it's weird that the author was friends with Ted Bundy and the author suspected that he was a serial killer, she must have questioned their friendehip at times. This book is very accurate about Ted Bundy, his personality, who he was as a person. I would recommend this book and several other in-depth books about Ted Bundy (if you can handle reading the graphically described things that he did to his victims) I believe he is responsible for a lot more murders that are already attributed to him and I also believe that he murdered a child as well. Lesser known facts about Ted Bundy are that he took Polaroid photos of his victims, he was a necrophile and visited his victims and assaulted their corpses after until putrifaction became apparent (their organs liquified) he also decapitated some of his victims with a hacksaw and his ashes were spread near a mountain in America where some of his victims were found. Ted Bundy was executed via the electric chair in 1989 (two years after I was born) True crime isn't for everyone, don't read these types of books if it's going to traumatize you.
