About Beach Read

AI-generated

Two writers suffering from creative drought find themselves as unlikely neighbors in adjacent beach houses for the summer. January Andrews, who writes happily-ever-after romance novels, is grappling with a crisis of faith in love itself after discovering a devastating family secret. Next door is Augustus Everett, a literary fiction author known for serious, cynical stories who's struggling to produce his next book. Despite their opposite worldviews and competitive history from their college workshop days, they strike up a deal: she'll write something serious while he attempts a romance, and they'll swap guidance along the way. What unfolds is a charming exploration of grief, creativity, and second chances wrapped in witty banter and genuine emotional depth. Emily Henry crafts a romance that questions what stories we tell ourselves about love and life, while her protagonists gradually break down each other's carefully constructed walls. The novel balances humor with heartache, offering both the escapist pleasure of a beach read and the substance of characters working through real pain. It's a love letter to writers and readers alike, proving that sometimes the best stories emerge when we step outside our comfort zones and allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

So Good. So Satisfying. Totally character-driven. Slow burn, second chances, imperfect and complex families, story within a story.Excellent slow burn between two former crushes. Very little beach, a lot of Michigan woods, liberal small town vibes, and close houses. January and Gus write during the day, go on literary research outings on Friday, and airy romance dates Saturday. This is all the right notes. I wanna soak it in and hold it tight.
