About People We Meet On Vacation

AI-generated

Two best friends, Poppy and Alex, couldn't be more different—she's a spontaneous free spirit who craves adventure, while he's a cautious homebody who finds comfort in routine. Despite their contrasting personalities, they've maintained an inseparable friendship built on an annual summer vacation tradition. But when a falling out two years ago brings their trips to an abrupt halt, Poppy realizes that nothing in her life has felt right since. Determined to fix what's broken, she convinces Alex to take one more vacation together, hoping to repair their friendship and recapture what they once had. Emily Henry crafts a heartfelt story that explores the blurry line between friendship and romance, the fear of risking what matters most, and the question of whether two people can be perfect for each other despite—or because of—their differences. Told through alternating timelines that reveal both their past vacations and their present journey, the novel builds tension while celebrating the small moments and inside jokes that define meaningful relationships. With witty banter, genuine emotion, and a sun-soaked setting that changes with each chapter, this contemporary romance appeals to anyone who has ever wondered if a friendship could become something more, or feared that trying might mean losing everything.

Excellent chemistry. Proper RomCom. We meet Poppy and Alex this summer, 11-ish years after they met. We go back and forth between this summer and their 10 prior summers together. My problem: I loathe timeline-jumping.
